Recursive Garden is a fractal, recursive agency for the benefit of all beings.

Our mission is to skillfully serve the all while wielding power in a way that does not cause harm. Software is a form of power. It shapes what people can do, what they can see, and how they spend their attention. We take that seriously.

Fractal and recursive

A garden tended well at one scale tends to flourish at every scale. The same care we bring to a variable name, we bring to a function, a module, a product, an engagement, a relationship. The work folds back on itself: each project refines the tools and judgment we bring to the next.

How we work

• Small teams. Direct communication. No account managers between you and the people doing the work.
• Durable, boring technology. We choose tools our clients can still maintain in ten years.
• Honest scopes. We would rather decline work than take on something we cannot do well.
• Equanimity. We are never in a hurry. Good work takes the time it takes.

Non-harm

We decline engagements that we believe will cause net harm — to users, to workers, to the commons. We build systems that fail gracefully, respect consent, and keep humans in the loop where it matters.
